Academic Support

WIN Block (What I Need)

Each day, classes have a 30-minute WIN block — a time set aside to make sure students get what they need to grow and succeed. Some students meet with our learning specialist, interventionist or paras for extra support in reading, while others get more practice with important skills we’re working on in class. Students who show mastery, take part in extension activities that challenge them to apply their learning in new and creative ways.

Reading Interventions

Students meet in small groups to work on specific skills based on assessment data. These targeted interventions give students what they need to grow as a reader. We use state-approved intervention programs, including 95% and Orton-Gillingham. Students are progress monitored to make sure the interventions are working and adjustments are made as needed.

PLCs (Professional Learning Communities)

PLC Mission

Professional learning communities empower teachers to grapple with the complex work of teaching, ensuring coherence, consistency, and belonging for all learners through collaborative planning, reflection on results, and collective commitment to continuous improvement of practice.

PLC Definition

A community of educators working and learning together to ensure that every student achieves and is guaranteed an extraordinary student experience by:

  • Clarifying high expectations of grade level standards,
  • Planning worthy tasks that engage learners,
  • Analyzing data and responding to students with timely feedback,
  • Reflecting on the effectiveness of evidence-based instructional practices.
Warder

Grade-level teams work collaboratively with the Instructional Coach to work on making sure we have strong core instruction. We internalize units and lessons to make sure the learning is clear and monitor student work to make sure they are learning.
